04-24-2008   New lymphoma therapies targets diverse and difficult cancer

The fifth leading cause of cancer in the United States, lymphoma is made up of more than 40 rare and highly diverse diseases that target the body's lymphatic system. Lymphomas include both one of the fastest growing cancers -- Burkitt's lymphoma, which can double in size in as little as a day -- and one of the slowest, chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).


04-22-2008   Risk Of Second Cancers Greatest In Younger Patients Treated For Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (external link)

For survivors of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma the risk of developing subsequent secondary cancers is greater the younger the patient's age at diagnosis, concludes a study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. The study also showed that the toll of subsequent solid tumours was largest 21 to 30 years after diagnosis.

Immunomedics, a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing monoclonal antibodies to treat cancer and other serious diseases, today reported that combining veltuzumab, the Company's proprietary humanized anti-CD20 antibody, with yttrium-90-labeled epratuzumab, its humanized anti-CD22 antibody, improves treatment responses in a human lymphoma model. The preclinical results were presented at the 2008 Annual Meeting of American Association for Cancer Research in San Diego, California.

Researchers from Poland have reported that statins may reduce the effectiveness of Rituxan® (rituximab) in treatment of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL). The details of this study were published online in PLoS Med (the Public Library of Science journal) on March 25, 2008.


04-08-2008   Seattle Genetics Announces Initiation of Phase Ib Clinical Trial of SGN-40 in Combination with Rituxan and Gemzar for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

Seattle Genetics, Inc. announced today that it has initiated a phase Ib clinical trial of SGN-40 in combination with Rituxan(R) (rituximab) and Gemzar(R) (gemcitabine) for patients with relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

04-06-2008   Increased Life Expectancy Seen For Patients With Advanced Colorectal, Ovarian and Testicular Cancer (external link)

A new study indicates that patients receiving treatments for late stage testicular, colorectal and ovarian cancer have increased life expectancy, resulting from the proportion of patients cured or by prolonging survival among non-cured patients. The research reveals that mathematical models and population level data can be used to determine how treatment advances are changing survival and are impacting mortality. The study is published in the May 15, 2008 issue of CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society.
